    A BRIEF HISTORY

    Ardmore began in 1887 as a trading hub along the tracks of the Santa Fe Railway, where local farmers and ranchers loaded cattle and sold cotton. It was named by a Santa Fe crew foreman after Ardmore, Pennsylvania, where he had previously worked.

    Ardmore now serves as the county seat for Carter County. It spans at total of 51.8 square miles and maintains a thriving arts and culture scene.

    EDUCATION

    Established in 1899, Ardmore City Schools is home to six public schools that serve over 2,800 students.* Its schools include:

    Ardmore is also home to University Center of Southern Oklahoma, a unique campus that offers programs from Langston University, Murray State College, and Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
